Year 12 pupils in T6 will be taking part in a work experience on Tuesday 1st to Friday 4th April 2025. The aim is to give pupils the opportunity to gain experience of the work place or volunteer sector in order to develop the skills and knowledge they will need for the future.
Research shows us that work experience has the most impact when pupils are actively involved in the process and therefore, we strongly encourage them to contact employers to find their own placement. By doing this, pupils have more control over the type of employer they visit and can choose to approach businesses in areas of interest to them. Placements can be found in a number of ways, e.g. through family links; by writing or telephoning businesses; or by visiting organisations in person. Pupils will be supported with this process in school. Whilst it is always useful for pupils to secure placements in industries in which they have a particular interest, all work settings will provide the opportunity to develop essential employability skills, this could include a volunteering placement.
Once pupils have secured a placement, please complete the following Google Form in order to provide us with the relevant details:
https://forms.gle/a2PBDH4H6KpPVdnk7
This form should be completed by Friday 21st February. Following this, each placement will be sent a health and safety form which will need to be completed prior to the placement starting. Placements must have employer liability insurance, otherwise pupils will be unable to attend. The only exception to this, is if pupils are working for a company owned by their parents. Due to the time it takes to complete the relevant health and safety checks, we are not able to accept forms after this date.
What happens if my child has not found their own placement?
If your child has not found their own placement, we will endeavour to place them with a contact secured by the school. Whilst we will do our best to place pupils in an area that interests them, we cannot guarantee this and pupils will be expected to attend any placement that is given to them.
